This Season’s Trends - What to wear

This season's trends

Trends

In these difficult times, frivolity is replaced by a focus on working women, with tailoring featuring strongly this Autumn/Winter. In contrast, its back to the 1980s for super-sized shoulders and the disco diva. Black dominates, along with grey, although there are indigo tones, teal, purple and grape to add opulence to the palette. The silhouette is defined, shaped and precise or fluid, draped and feminine. Decadent thigh high boots, decorative tights, jumbo neckpieces, clutch bag, hats and hoods are the accessories of the season.

The Eighties
A fashion flashback- glamour, glitter, sequin, lame and lycra leggings. Choose from Dynasty cocktail wear or disco dancewear. Layer leggings with a sweater dress or skirt. This look is best suited to those that were too young to wear it the first time around.

Shoulders
It’s all about the shoulder this season. Shoulders are volcanic and dramatic for Autumn/Winter- horizontally out, up and boulder like round. The bonus is that the structural shoulder gives the illusion of a tiny waist.

Lashings of Leather
Think edgy street style and urban tough. Butter soft leather in black is key to this look. Biker jackets with soft sleeves, coat dresses, supple and delicate. Stud and zip details can be found on everything from dresses to bags and boots.

Winter florals
Wear a floral or print dress with the season’s thigh- high boot, for a flirty, not trashy, look. Alternatively wear with black opaque tights. Blurred florals in deep jewel colours look fresh.

Houndstooth
Tweed is big this season. Wear heavy tweed with a light simple piece for a soft feminine feel. This is a city look rather than a country dressing look. Houndstooth checks vary in proportions from micro to jumbo.

Deluxe Velvet
Velvet is the season’s key evening fabric. A luxurious and sumptuous fabric in jewel colours. There is splicing, burn-out designs and soft dresses in a variety of styles.

Forties
Silhouettes are inspired by the Second World War era. Fit and flare skirt suits, waspish waists, sexy pencil skirts, little knee length dresses and structured day coats. Feminine dressing at its finest.

Luxe coat
This season invest in the camel coat. Calf length, short, belted, double- breasted or duffle fastening. Practical and stylish, an understated classic. A camel coat will go with everything.

Knits
Consider every type of knit, from cobweb to fine to chunky to mohair to Peruvian decorative. The look is about layers- mix different tones and patterns, weights and lengths. Add a snood and jumbo scarf to be cosy, warm and chic.
