Taking your mental health into your own hands – LITERALLY!

This week I decided to share some massage, self-massage, shiatsu, and acupressure tips. Touch during these very anxious and fearful times boosts not only our physical immunity but our mental health too!!
How? For starters, the muscles in your hands relate to the brain. Gentle touch and tools to self soothe during times of anxiety, anger and depression are incredibly empowering, releasing so much serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins – our Jain happy hormones and coping chemicals.
Parts of our hands and fingers relate to the “upstairs brain “where we think and act rationally and logically. Other parts relate to our “downstairs “or “caveman” brain which when out of hand causes us literally to “flip our lids” ….
Each of the fingers relate to different body parts and store emotions such as stress, tension, anger, fear, grief, sadness, poor self-esteem!! The middle of the hand relates to our gut and the second brain where we bottle things up as well as store anxiety and fear.
So, while so many of us are in endless queues for mental health help, take matters into your own hands – literally – and give these techniques a whirl.
